The fire series is inspired by a project I curated and participated in called ARTISTS AT THE ROCK. The fire series is titled, ALCATRAZ CONSIDERATIONS-PRESENCE IN ABSENCE. The photographs depict either an existing place on the island or an area, which relates metaphorically to the islands landscape. FIRE ESCAPE, is in fact, a stairwell set ablaze. I work with the notion that escaping to one's "freedom" for certain populations is an impossibility. ARSON AND GRAFFITI deals with the energy and anger of those incarcerated. The other images work with the frustration of waiting. The resulting images mirror the energy which remains active on the island long after the displacement of its residents.
